MEGADETH was featured in the MTV special "Gears of War: The Race to Launch" dedicated to the most-anticipated Xbox 360 game of 2006, Gears of War. The band performed its song "Gears of War" (from the upcoming "United Abominations" album) at a release party for the game, which took place at at Six Flags in Springfield, Massachusetts.

You can see MEGADETH play the game, discuss it, and hear clips of the song, in this video posted at YouTube.com.

As previously reported, Dave Mustaine will host this weekend's special edition of "Headbanger's Ball" dedicated to the Gears of War game. Shot at Six Flags in Springfield, Massachusetts where gamers gather for a chance to sample video gaming's next big title, the episode will air on Saturday, November 18 at 10:00 p.m.

MEGADETH has tapped British producer Andy Sneap (NEVERMORE, MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY, CRADLE OF FILTH) to mix "United Abominations".

"United Abominations" will include a cover of LED ZEPPELIN's "Out on the Tiles", which MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has previously described as one of the CD's highlights. "It could be the best song," he said. "I think it rocks!"

9:08 am - Toronto Show - Mustaine Walks Off Stage

It was the start of the Megadeth set, they had finished playing Blackmail the Universe, and had started Set the World Afire, anyways during that song Dave walked over to his guitar tech and went and finished the song. About 3/4's through the Scorpion (3rd song played) he took his Blackmail the Universe guitar, and threw it across the stage and walked off. All the fans were stunned, but Glen, Shawn, and James finished the song. Soon after they left the stage, while walking around i heard people questioning what happen, some were upset, some were mad, one girl was crying ect ect....Anyways about a minutes after the crowd started to yell Megadeth Megadeth!!! and then changed to Dave Dave Dave!!!! shortly after Megadeths tour manager came on stage and said "there were technical difficulites, and Megadeth will be back in 5 minutes". 5 - 10 minutes later they boys hit the stage again, soon after a few songs Mustaine went to the microphone and said something along the lines of: "well i think its about time i said good evening, im sorry i walked off stage, the only reason i did was so that you guys can get the best Megadeth show you can"

Of course the crowd stormed and yelled in happiness and the band finished the set, maybe not as interesting as you thought it would be, but i think it shows how great Dave and Megadeth are to there fans, and i thought it was a real classy move to explain why he did what he did, rather than "axl rose" the situation, it was an awesome show none the less
See it here

According to a posting on the MEGADETH fan site Rattlehead HQ, the live album that MEGADETH recorded on October 9, 2005 in Buenos Aires, Argentina appears to be slated for a March 6, 2007 release via Image Entertainment. Entitled "That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires", the set will be released in both CD and DVD formats. Three TV-broadcast video clips of MEGADETH's performance in Buenos Aires have been posted online at YouTube.com. Check them out:

"Symphony of Destruction" (video)
"Coming Home" (video)
"A Tout le Monde" (video)

For more information on "That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires", visit the Image Entertainment web site.

MEGADETH's new CD, "United Abominations", is scheduled for release in early 2007 via Roadrunner Records. Dave Mustaine recently told Gary Graff of Billboard.com that the album, which he's producing with Jeff Balding, "has a lot of variation on it. It's got some surprises, but there's a really old-school vein to it, I would say." The group has been careful not to rush the album, either, holding sessions in London, Los Angeles and Nashville since earlier this year.

"We're taking our time with this one," Mustaine said. "It's a great feeling to make a record and not have our feet held to the fire. One of my heroes growing up was KISS, but they really frustrated me 'cause they would put out a record just about every year. I couldn't figure that out. I pretty much have a cycle of about 18 months to 24 months between records. I just can't put them out any quicker than that and feel comfortable about them."

11:09 am - DAVE MUSTAINE: 'I'm Not The Mean, Bad Guy Everyone Thinks I Am'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently spoke to Patrick Douglas of the Great Falls Tribune about the Gigantour 2006 traveling festival, which kicked off September 6 in Boise, Idaho.

"Gigantour's not so much a festival as it is a spirit," explained Mustaine. "It's a way of life and it's a way to capture what heavy metal stands for. I'm really proud to be in this genre."

"There's over 100 men and women that are out there every day that are under my wing," Mustaine said of the Gigantour staff.

"As a little guitar player at 13 years old, sitting in my bedroom, strumming along songs to a guitar tab book, I never thought that this would happen. Never thought in a million years."

"It's not a real dark, negative, dangerous festival. Full-on metal. Full-on good time. It's not like some of the festivals that are really scary and the girls come there looking like Morticia Addams. Who I thought was actually kind of sexy."

"The bottom line is that I just wanted to do something before the interest in Dave Mustaine ends and my career is over," he said. "I wanted to pass the torch to the next generation and I also wanted to give something back to the fans who have supported me over the years. That's why the talent is incredible."

On learning from last year's inaugural stint with the tour:

Mustaine: "With a woman who becomes pregnant, if she exercises and takes care of herself and uses Vitamin E cream and massages her skin, she won't get stretch marks. If she doesn't give a darn about what's going on and just lets it all hang out, doesn't exercise, she's gonna have stretch marks. Those stretch marks are forever. In business, stretch marks are bad for the infrastructure. So, you wanna grow at a slow pace and make sure everything's done properly."

On showing his new label, Roadrunner Records, that he isn't the bad guy people sometimes make him out to be;

"I'm really stoked because they didn't think that I was gonna be open to any suggestions about stuff," he explained. "I'm not the mean, bad guy everyone thinks I am (but) if you hurt me, I'm gonna hurt you back twice as bad. I'm not difficult. I'm demanding. I want the absolute best and that's why I want Gigantour to be so brilliant for the fans."

1:22 pm - Megadeth angry at United Nations

Mustaine on organization: 'It's an abomination what they're doing'

NEW YORK (Billboard) -- Heavy metal maven Dave Mustaine is so angry with the United Nations that he is naming his group Megadeth's next album "United Abominations."

"I was watching TV and saw the trucks that said 'UN' on them and said, 'Man, you are so uncool, ineffective, anything," the singer/guitarist said in a recent Billboard interview.

"I thought, 'Wow, I've got to run with this. I got it -- United Abominations, 'cause it's an abomination what they're doing!' "

The longtime bane of American conservatives, the United Nations has been criticized for its slow responses to humanitarian crises in hot spots such as Darfur and Rwanda. U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan recently expressed frustration that the group took so long to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Mustaine said Megadeth is putting the finishing touches on the album, its debut for indie label Roadrunner Records, and it should be ready "some time next year."

Megadeth's last album, "The System Has Failed," was released by Sanctuary in 2004.

Mustaine expects Megadeth to tour heavily in support of "United Abominations," perhaps into 2008. In the meantime, the group is gearing up for the September 6 start of the second Gigantour traveling heavy metal festival in Boise. The tour, which also features Lamb of God, Opeth and Arch Enemy, runs through October 8 in Orlando, Florida.

3:18 pm

Gigantour is back.

The fast and furious traveling festival that was hailed last year by Revolver magazine as "the mother of all shred fests" will kick off its second year in early September.

Look for the tour — the brainchild of MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine — to launch in the Northeast and to work its way through 25 major markets before wrapping in mid-October, with Xbox's "Gears of War" sponsoring the trek. MEGADETH will return as the festival headliner on a bill that includes fellow heavy-hitters LAMB OF GOD, plus OPETH, ARCH ENEMY, OVERKILL, INTO ETERNITY, SANCTITY and THE SMASHUP all confirmed for these mostly outdoor shows. Other second stage artists will be announced soon.

Mustaine personally hand-picks all the Gigantour bands, with a sharp eye on true musicianship. He says Gigantour is a great place for like-minded music fans to see a full day of music on two stages without breaking the bank, and he's glad the tour is back in '06. "This is the concert that I, as a heavy metal music fan, would want to see," says Mustaine. "It is going to be something to look forward to each year, to see what kind of tremendous talent we can assemble, for Gigantour festivals in the years to come."

LAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton says, "MEGADETH is one of the main reasons I started playing metal guitar in the first place. To finally tour with them is really exciting and it's a great way to start off our world tour supporting 'Sacrament'. We've been dying to get the new material up and running on the live stage. We've worked so hard on the new record — it's really a great sense of accomplishment to see the new tunes come to life in a live setting. We're really looking forward to this one." The group's Chris Adler says, "Teaming up with MEGADETH on Gigantour is a metal dream come true. The lineup represents some of the most proficient metal bands and players from across the world and we are looking forward to joining forces and kicking ass. We're planning on a nice long set, introducing a lot of new and very heavy material from 'Sacrament' as well as keeping the brutal live tracks from our previous albums. We can't wait to take the stage and destroy it."

Last year's inaugural Gigantour was a six-week trek that was hailed by the Miami Herald for featuring "only bands whose musicianship matches their ability to melt faces with sheer volume and power." The Orange County Register agreed, saying, "...it does a heart good to see Mustaine able to buck the chameleon trend of rock and stay firm to his ideals, keeping the music the priority and not the image."

As for joining forces with Gigantour, Craig Davison, Director of Global Games Marketing for Xbox, says, "We're totally jazzed about the partnership between Gigantour 2006 and our forthcoming Xbox 360 blockbuster, Gears of War! Partnering a music extravaganza like Gigantour with the launch of a mega-hit game like Gears of War captures the excitement around two awesome happenings for fans of music and video games!" Gears of War is a blockbuster video game exclusively for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system that blends tactical action with survival horror. Gears of War thrusts gamers into a harrowing story of humankind's epic battle for survival and is available this holiday.

In other Gigantour news, Image Entertainment will release two-DVD and two-CD sets of Gigantour 2005, which included MEGADETH, DREAM THEATER, FEAR FACTORY, ANTHRAX, NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, SYMPHONY X, DRY KILL LOGIC and BOBAFLEX. The CD is out August 22, with the DVD hitting stores September 5 — just in time for this year's tour.

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"On Monday, July 24th we will be making the official announcement of Gigantour 2006 North America with information on this year's lineup, the cities, the venues, and the dates as well. You can get information here or at the Gigantour site. Meanwhile, deep in vocals land [recording vocals for new MEGADETH album]. The choice of what new songs to break out live is as cool as it was during the 'Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good' tour when we were playing the new music from 'Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?'."

MEGADETH's as-yet-untitled Roadrunner Records debut is being recorded under the watchful eye of mainman Dave Mustaine and co-producer Jeff Balding. The initial studio sessions — held at Sarm Studios, outside of London — were filmed by director Michael Sarna (ANTHRAX, OBITUARY) and are available at Megadeth.com to fan-club members.

10:42 am - MEGADETH Mainman On New CD: 'This Record Sounds Like A Metal Record' - from blabbermouth.net

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:

"It's been a long time since we visited, unless you were in the fanclub chat last month, and there is a world of stuff to inform you of. As we stand now, you all know we are in the middle of doing a new record . . .

"The new record is produced by Jeff Balding and myself, and will be mixed by Jeff, although Jeff and I talked at the beginning of this project and I made clear that I wanted a different sounding record, not unlike the 'sounds' of previous records, but stripped down of all extra stuff we had experimeted with and just make a metal record. Regardless of speed or heaviness, this record sounds like a metal record.

"Next up is touring and MEGADETH has two shows in Spain this month; Gigantour.2006.NA starts in September and ends in October, with more details coming soon; we have one show in Japan in October, after Gigantour in North America; we are nearing our release date for the details about a very possible Gigantour.2006.OZ; then there will be various dates in the states and elsewhere leading up to the European leg of this World Tour, which may end up being Gigantour.2006.EU. Any dates following this will be posted at either the MEGADETH Killing Road page or the 'Smell The Asphalt' page at the Gigantour.com site.

"There are two more releases that are scheduled for release soon and they are the Gigantour CD, which comes out August 22nd or so, and the DVD, which comes out September 11th, I believe. And then there is the 'Megadeth: Live in Argentina' record, which is tentatively titled 'Megadeth - That One Night!'

"The boys in the band and I are getting along fantastically, every one is done with their various parts, so it is all vocals, and some remaining overdubs and then it's mix time.

"I am off to go visit my family for the Fourth of July, and to those of us that celebrate it, 'Happy 4th!!!' Those of you that don't, have a great day anyway and if ya want, you can pretend you do celebrate it, or put on 'So Far, So Good… So What!', start a revolution in your little city, and make your own damn holidays."

According to blabbermouth.net:

Based on this "Case Detail" page on the web site of the San Diego Superior Court, it appears that MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine filed for the dissolution of his marriage to Pamela Mustaine on May 26, 2006.

Dave Mustaine married Pamela Anne Casselberry in 1991 and together they have one son, Justis, born in 1992, and a daughter, Electra, born in 1998. The family has lived in Arizona, but are believed to currently reside in Southern California.

As previously reported, MEGADETH are currently working on their as-yet-untitled Roadrunner Records debut under the watchful eye of Dave Mustaine and co-producer Jeff Balding. The initial studio sessions held at Sarm Studios, outside of London were filmed by director Michael Sarna (ANTHRAX, OBITUARY) and are available at Megadeth.com to fan-club members.

MEGADETH's last CD, "The System Has Failed", has sold more than 180,000 copies since its September 2004 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group, who were most recently signed to Sanctuary Records, were joined by bassist James Lomenzo (ex-BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, WHITE LION) in February following the departure of James MacDonough (ex-ICED EARTH).

Contrary to the popular belief that he is still holding a grudge against some of his former bandmates, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine claims that he is "over the feuds" with METALLICA and other former collaborators, including bassist David Ellefson. Commenting on the perception that he comes off looking bitter in interviews, Mustaine said in a February 4, 2006 online posting, "I said it before, [and] I'll say it again: I once was resentful, but now I am over the feuds with METALLICA, Ellefson, whomever. I have actually met with Ellefson one-on-one for dinner last year around [Christmas] to just clear the air and let him know I have no hard feelings and wanted to remain friends with him. We have talked on the phone numerous times since."

Mustaine sued Ellefson last July for allegedly using the MEGADETH name without permission in an advertisement for musical equipment. The suit claimed he and Ellefson entered into a settlement agreement in February 2005 that restricted the bassist's use of the band name. Ellefson sued Mustaine in July 2004 alleging that Ellefson was entitled to a greater share of the band's profits than he was paid. A U.S. District judge ruled in January 2005 that Ellefson had no valid claims against MEGADETH, Dave Mustaine or anyone else, holding that Ellefson had entered into a valid settlement agreement with the band in May 2004, and released all of his claims in that agreement. Ellefson alleged in his suit that the settlement agreement was unenforceable — a claim the federal court soundly rejected.

Wow, never knew they had dinner around Christmas...
